History

Librarians' Alliance for Parents and Children (LAPC) is a coalition formed for librarians who conduct Parent-Toddler Workshops.  LAPC began in the fall of 1982 with a group of six librarians who saw the need for a network to share ideas and materials which relate to Parent-Toddler Workshops.  The founding librarians had recently developed programs which followed the example of Sandy Feinberg's Parent/Child Workshop which started in 1979 at the Middle Country Public Library.
By February of 1983, the group had grown to eight librarians who established the criteria for LAPC.  A logo was chosen.  Plans were made to create bibliographies for parents-one per library per year.  It was agreed to create a file for resource people.  In 1986 a procedure was established for a periodical list.
LAPC meetings are now held in member libraries on a rotating basis three times yearly.  The host librarian also chairs the meeting.  LAPC continues in the spirit of information sharing as a valuable coalition growing in the 1990's with a current membership of 23 libraries. Now as of 2013 we have 41 libraries on the membership list for LAPC
